A nationwide writing competition inviting students to submit original essays. Entries are evaluated by industry professionals, with winning entries receiving recognition.

Akshaya Vidya Foundation operates 100+ tutoring centres serving underprivileged children. All proceeds from the competition will be directed to the Foundation’s science initiative, specifically supporting the development of its Science Centre through the purchase of hands-on science kits for students.

India STEM Writing Competition

The National Writing Competition 2026, conducted in partnership with the Akshaya Vidya Foundation, provides a national platform for students to demonstrate excellence in scientific writing and communication. This competition seeks to combine rigorous analysis, originality, and clarity of thought, rewarding young minds who can present complex ideas with precision.

Students must register by 19th April, 2026.

 

All entries must be submitted by May 30th, 2026. (Awards announced on July 15th).

Judging

The judging panel comprises distinguished industry leaders including Google India Senior Executives, Qualcomm India VP, Microsoft Engineering Excellence Head, and Pharmatech CEO (USP), alongside UPenn engineering and UMich computational engineering alumni.
Their elite expertise in tech innovation, global finance, and pharma leadership spans Entrepreneur India's 35 Under 35 to C-suite roles, guaranteeing world-class evaluation of your writing.

 

A pre-screening process ensures judges review only shortlisted, high-quality entries. Top Three entries will be announced on July 15th for each category. Authors will be awarded certificates of recognition.

2026 QUESTION 1.

In recent years, significant innovations have emerged across science, technology, mathematics, and engineering, addressing complex challenges in areas such as health, sustainability, infrastructure, and data analysis. Choose one recent STEM invention or innovation that has been developed or widely applied in recent years.

  1. Explain what the invention or innovation is and how it works, including the key scientific, technological, mathematical, or engineering principles behind it.

  2. Discuss the real-world problem it addresses, explaining why this issue is significant at a local or global level.

  3. Analyze its impact, considering potential or existing social, environmental, or ethical implications, as well as factors such as scalability, accessibility, or long-term consequences.​​

In the 21st century, scientific and technological developments increasingly shape social institutions, cultural norms, political systems, and economic structures. Choose one major scientific or technological development that has emerged or become widely influential in recent years.

  1. Explain what this development is and describe the historical, cultural, political, or economic context in which it emerged.

  2. Examine how it has influenced societal values, political decision-making, or economic systems, explaining why these changes are significant at a local or global level.

  3. Analyze its broader implications, considering issues such as power dynamics, inequality, governance, cultural transformation, or ethical responsibility.

  4. Evaluate whether innovation in this area should be guided primarily by democratic oversight, moral philosophy, or social responsibility rather than by scientific possibility or market forces alone.

  • Essays should be analytical, well-structured, and supported by accurate reasoning or evidence where appropriate.

Eligibility

The competition is open to students nationwide across India who are enrolled in Grades 8–12 at the time of submission. All entries must be submitted by May 30th, and the results will be announced on July 15th.
